Donnybrook Road to Clonskeagh Road Proposals
Dublin City Council will deliver the Active Travel Network through a series of infrastructure projects over the coming years. The Network will grow from its existing 10km to a connected network of 310km across the city. It will offer safer, inclusive and more sustainable travel options.
Donnybrook Road to Clonskeagh Road has been identified as a suitable location for 0.8km of rapid build walking and cycling facilities along the Dodder Greenway corridor. The overall project will deliver high quality walking and cycling facilities along the Dodder River from the sea to the mountains through Dublin City Council, Dún Laoghaire Rathdown County Council and South Dublin County Council.
About the Scheme
- One-way protected cycle lanes will be provided on both sides of Beaver Row between Stillorgan Road and Beech Hill Avenue. Two -way traffice will be maintained on this section and access to the Dublin Bus Garage.
- A signalised junction is proposed at the Beech Hill Avenue / Beaver Row junction.
- A shared walking and cycling facility will be provided on the western side of Beech Hill Road/Beaver Road between the Beech Hill Avenue junction and Clonskeagh Road.
- A one-way traffic system will be introduced from the entrance to Smurfit Kappa up to Beech Hill Avenue junction, allowing vehicles to travel northbound only.
- Existing parking spaces and the accessible parking bay on the eastern side of the road along the Beaver Row Cottages will be maintained.
- Existing pedestrian crossings along the route will be upgraded to pedestrian and cyclist crossings.
Scheme Benefits
- Provide Active travel facilities to cater for all ages and abilities along the Dodder River.
- Facilitate a more active lifestyle for all ages bringing multiple benefits for physical and mental wellbeing.
- Provide improved pedestrian and cycle crossing facilities at the junction of Beech Hill Avenue and Beaver Row and across Clonskeagh Road.
- Contribute to a reduction in transport emissions in line with the objectives of the Climate Action Plan by encouraging a modal shift to active travel use.
Why your views matter
The DCC Active Travel Programme Office are carrying out this non-statutory public consultation from the 2nd of November to the 8th of December. The purpose of the consultation is to inform the public of the key features of the Donnybrook Road to Clonskeagh Road Scheme and to gather any comments or observations

Please note that this is a consultation on the Donnybrook Road to Clonskeagh Road scheme only, and future consultations will address proposals for the remaining sections of the Dodder Greenway project as the design progresses.
