Implementation of the Voter.ie Electoral Portal
Overview
Dublin City Council is proposing to provide a new electoral portal, www.voter.ie in February/March 2019. Voter.ie will only be available in the Dublin region and will provide users with the facility to check their electoral details in real time and replace www.checktheregister.ie
The portal will also provide users with a range of online services.
Voters can
- Add themselves to the Register of Electors (new applications, 1st time registration)
- Change their address
- Edit their electoral details (incl. citizenship changes, change of name)
- Remove themselves from the Register
This is an additional service for Dublin residents and does not replace the current paper forms. Users can check their details by submitting their full name and address or Eircode on the system. However, if they wish to avail of the online services outlined above then the user must verify their identity through www.mygovid.ie. MyGovID is an online identity service, developed by the Department of Employment Affairs and Social Protection, that allows you to access online Government services in a safe and secure manner.
In introducing a new system we are obliged to undertake a Data Privacy Impact Assessment (DPIA).
