North West Area Art on Traffic Light Box Submissions

Closed 7 May 2015

Opened 2 Apr 2015

Overview

We are now calling on those artists and creatives amongst you to submit your proposals for artwork on our Traffic Light Control Boxes (those grey boxes you see dotted around - see above) in the North West area.  This competition is open to all, both amateur and professional.  Previous experience is not required.  Costs of no more than €200 per box, to include materials, may be recouped by the successful entrant(s).  Artists should submit their proposals on the link below.

Submissions should only be made by individuals/groups who are in a position to implement their proposals in full.

The submissions will be adjudicated by a Selection Committee whose decision is final.  Details of the Selection Process are outlined in the document Art Selection and Criteria Process attached below. We look forward to receiving your ideas, so unleash your creativity to help us animate the streetscape to culturally and creatively benefit the city.

Why your views matter

This is your chance to help Dublin City Council animate the city by proposing art work for the  Traffic Light Control Utility Boxes dotted across the city.  You may have noticed them on your travels, gray in colour and under constant fire from tagging, graffiti, postering and stickering.  A proposed solution was to put artwork onto the boxes, which would remove or reduce the need for maintenance and in turn animate and improve the public realm experience with a unique piece of art.  A successful trial was carried out in 2012 ( ref photos doc below) and we are now ready to roll out this initiative in the North West area, focusing particularly on locations targeted by tagging, graffiti etc.
