We asked

Last year Dublin City Council announced the proposed change of use and development of a public library at the former Postal Sorting Office, Seamus Ennis Road, Finglas.

In addition to the formal planning consultation process, The Dublin City Library Service sought help from the public to help us decide what that library should look like and what services it should provide. A short survey took place from 12/04-03/05/2021 to create better solutions for Finglas Library users and the wider community.

250 responses to the survey were received. It should be noted that any views, thoughts and opinions presented in the summary report are those submitted during the non-statutory public consultation, and are not Dublin City Councils. The survey results are available at the bottom of this page.

We did

A working group took the responses and added them to the results from further community consultations. The working group has compiled a summary report, which was presented to the design team. It is hoped that many of the public suggestions will be incorporated into the design of the new Finglas Library. Dublin City Libraries would like to thank everyone who responded to the consultation.

Overview

Last year Dublin City Council announced the proposed change of use and development of a public library at the former Postal Sorting Office, Seamus Ennis Road, Finglas.

The former postal sorting office will be converted into a public library with works to include full mechanical and electrical refit, enlargement of existing window on south elevation internal refurbishment providing spaces for reading, studying, exhibitions, library/community events and sanitary accommodation to meet the requirements of high quality contemporary library service provision. Ramped access to existing front entrance and consequent landscaping are also included. No addition or reduction to the existing floor area is proposed. A Public Consultation in relation to the proposed development, dealing with the proper planning and sustainable development of the area in which the development would be situated was held in January 2021. In addition to the formal planning consultation process, this public survey will also be undertaken to create better solutions for Finglas Library users and the wider community.
